Pina Pizza opened it's doors in April 1959 as a small, hole-in-the-wall pizza shop. This "Mom & Pop" shop has grown into the Downey icon you now crave.
Mama Pina Persico and "Papa" John Persico started with a limited menu. They served pizzas, a few pastas and sandwiches. Pina's was even the first business to deliver their amazing Italian food all over the City of Downey. Everyone just loved seeing their funny-looking little trucks with ovens on the back, lovingly dubbed, “Lady Bugs”.
Although we have expanded our menu, added dining rooms, and the drivers now use their own vehicles, Pina Pizza still uses the same recipes enjoyed by millions over the years.
The Pina Pizza House "reigns" have been handed over to Pina and Pop's son Caro and their grandson Michael. Caro and Michael want everyone to feel like family when they walk through our doors which is why they run the business with the same love, pride, grace, gratitude and family values Pina Persico set forth from that very first day in April over 65 years ago.
